this can only happen if you (or previous owner ?) has overwritten it.

Then you will need to use the manual method. On this moment I did not made yet a package to do that

Would this be worth trying?

what about your firewall settings ?
You must grant access of the program nc and tftp.

if you did not touch u-boot then it should be possible to use the console.

ps what is the position of the switch on back of the 2big1 ? it must be in big position. if that won't work then we can prepare a package for you that you can use for manual install. However I do not have time for that until sunday evening

I switch firewall off and have ethernet direct to the Nas, I am pretty sure it is on big but will try again later ensuring that it is on big mode.

thanks,

Tried again, no go. I am now thinking that this is a u-boot issue, I will have to consider re-flashing u-boot (if possible) with netconsole. Any other suggestions as to what I am to do at this point.

Just a remark from experience: Try just using the function "stanalone kernel, load and start" from fvdwsl console. Do the other steps manually in the terminal window. For that, follow the instructions in the respective help text for "install fvdw-sl firmware" in the fvdwsl console. Ar least that helped in my case.

were you stuck at "waiting for u-boot" for your experience?

No, in my case connection to u-boot succeeded, but the terminal never logged on when i tried to install firmware from the beginning.

install firmware by fvdw-sl-console

Hi 2big1 friends,
my 2big1 also is a little bit tricky.

- Connect both (2big1 and the console) via cable to the same hub / switch at the same speed.
- Switch off the wlan of your windows system
and disable all other networks (eg VMware Network Adapter . . .)
(you are not aware which interface is really used by windows).
- Put the rotary switch to the "big" position
- Do a 2big1 factory reset (without drives, it is possible that the factory reset resets some partitions)
https://www.lacie.com/support/support_manifest.htm?id=10245&guideid=10454
- Put the empty drive into the left hand slot (seen from rear)
- Start the fvdw-sl-console and select an IP-Adress for the NAS from the same subnet as defined in your DHCP server
(either 192.168.0.252 or 192.168.1.252)
- Power-on your NAS

There is a little bug in the fvdw-sl-installer.sh installer script. It installs always the NWSP2 stuff to a NAS, even it is a 2big1.

I used this work-around:
- in the "fvdw-sl-console-64/tftp" folder I created a folder "2big1"
I unzipped the latest firmware version "xfvdw-sl-15-3-2big1-30may2014" to the folder "2big1"
I copied the NWSP2 version of the file "sda5-lacie-nwsp.tar.gz" to the folder "2big1"
=> look to the next subject for details
- I modified the installer script to a 2big1 version "fvdw-2big1-installer.sh"
- I told the console to boot the "IMAGE-26394-5BIG1-22-standalone" image
- I uploaded and executed the "fvdw-2big1-installer.sh" shell script
=> look to the next but one subject for details
- I answered the questions about the NAS type and disk formatting in a way that a dos partition table was created.

Have fun

Details for fvdw-sl-console extension for a 2big1

Postby uelpenich » Sat Aug 23, 2014 6:11 pm

Get the latest firmware release as
xfvdw-sl-15-3-2big1-30may2014.part1.rar
xfvdw-sl-15-3-2big1-30may2014.part2.rar
xfvdw-sl-15-3-2big1-30may2014.part3.rar

Unpack it using 7zip to
xfvdw-sl-15-3-2big1-30may2014.bin
(btw this is the file which is used by the firmware update procedure)

Unpack it using 7zip to
xfvdw-sl-15-3-2big1-30may2014

Unpack it using 7zip into the 2big1 folder in fvdw-sl-console-64\tftp\
You will get the following files:
DATABASE
KERNELVERSION
MD5
MD5DATABASE
MD5KERNEL
NAME
PLATFORM
UIMAGE-3135-BIG1-2
xfvdw-sl-15-3-2big1-30may2014.img
The installation procedure only needs three files
UIMAGE-3135-BIG1-2
xfvdw-sl-15-3-2big1-30may2014.img
sda5-lacie-nwsp.tar.gz
The other files are used by the firmware update procedure to verify the use of the correct image.

At last you have to copy the file sda5-lacie-nwsp.tar.gz from the directory fvdw-sl-console-64\tftp\nwsp2 to the directory fvdw-sl-console-64\tftp\2big1. (Remark: Future releases will contain the tar.gz file so it will not longer be necessary to copy it)

Now you are ready to start the console installation procedure.
